Meddie Kagere Scores in his Simba debut

Simba SC had to thank immediate former Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere as the Tanzania mainland champions eased past Rwanda giants APR.

The former Gor Mahia man netted from the spot in the 89th minute to help seal a 2-1 win for the reigning Tanzanian league champions.

Fiston Nkinzigabo broke the deadlock in the 68th minute for the Rwandese champions but the lead would only last five minutes as Adam Salamba restored parity in the 73rd minute.

Quarter-finals

Kagere, making his debut for the side after his move from Gor in June, would seal the victory with a well taken spot kick with a minute to go to help secure a quarter-final appearance following Simba’s opening day 4-0 demolition of Somalian outfit Dakadaha.

APR have now lost twice after suffering another 2-1 defeat to another Tanzanian side, Singida United in their first match.

In the other game played on the day, Singida United managed a slim 1-0 win over Dakadaha. Habib Kyombo scored the only goal of the game to help propel the tournament debutants to the quarter-final stage.
