Ugandan representatives at the Cecafa Club Championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Vipers SC – returned to Kampala midway at the tournament after failing to live with competition. The Ugandan champions fell 2-1 to Kenya’s Gor Mahia on Sunday to end the campaign prematurely.
Vipers experimented with largely fresh players with coach Miguel Da Costa not putting out the same line-up in all four matches.
“We were playing teams with maturity much higher than ours,” said Da Costa.
“But the tournament has helped us grow as a team. We had a young team and many new players which made it hard for us.”
Tadeo Lwanga had given Vipers a 15th minute lead but Jacques Tuyisenge and Francis Mustapha rallied Gor Mahia to the semifinals.
