Uganda Premier League champions,Vipers SC have appointed Mexican Javier Espinosa Martinez as their new head coach.
The 46 year old takes the reigns from immediate former head coach Miguel Duarte Da Costa who was relieved of his duties last month despite having won the Azam sponsored domestic league .
Martinez signed a two-year deal with the Kitende based outfit and was unveiled at a ceremony held at St Mary Stadium,the home of the venoms.
The soft spoken gaffer previously severed as a technical director at Juventus FC of Nicaragua.
“It’s a pleasure to be in Uganda. I thank Mr. Mulindwa for giving me this opportunity and I think this is the best option for me to be here,” said Martinez.
“We want to be at a higher level and I promise I will do everything. I have my own skills in this project. We have to make something different inside and outside. We have to be an example,” he added.
Martinez’s big task will be to retain the Uganda Premiership and as well as winning the Uganda Cup and guide the team to qualify for CAF Champions’ League group stages.
He becomes the club’s third foreign coach at the reigning three-time league champions after Da Costa and Nigerian Ambrose Chukuma.
