Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia and USM Alger were stunned in the round 5 of the CAF Confederations Cup Tournament matches played on Sunday 19th August.
Host Gor Mahia went into the match with a clear chance of cementing their top spot to ensure their qualification for the quarter finals stage but all did not work as per their plans as Rayon Sports proved a hard nut to crack.
In the match played at Kasarani Stadium visiting Rayon who were the underdogs took an early lead on the 3rd minute through Caleb Bimenyimana before Gor restored parity courtesy of their mid season acquisition Francis Mustafa on the 22nd minute both teams would then go for the break level
On resumption Rayon made a positive response getting their second of the day from a well taken free kick by Erick Rutanga on the 52nd minute to hand Rayon the victory
In the other match of group D Algerian side USM Alger either did not have a good outing in Tanzania.Host Young Africans made no mistakes using fully their home advantage to bag all the points, Yanga went ahead through Kaseke Deus on the 44th minute just before the breather. In the second half Yanga went up early getting their second of the day on the 47th minute courtesy of Heretier Makambo before USM Alger pulled one back through Adderanmane Meziane.
The results sees Gor Mahia and USM Alger tied at the top on 8points while Rayon and Yanga are placed 3rd and fourth respectively on 6points and 3points
In the other results of the CAF Confederations Cup matches played yesterday AS Vita beat Raja Casablanca 2:0, CARA Brazzaville thumped Williamsvile Athletic 3:1 while Union Desportiva were held at home by El Masry
