Ghana dealt major blow as star striker is ruled out

The Black Stars of Ghana have been dealt a late blow after Ghanaian international and Tianjin Teda striker Frank Acheampong was ruled out of Saturday’s AFCON 2019 qualifier against the Harambee stars of Kenya due to an acute eye problem.

According to the team doctor Dr. Adomako, the 24-year-old who had been nursing the eye problem since Tuesday in their training camp in Ethiopia, has now been granted permission to leave camp in Nairobi after he complained of his condition getting worse.

“I am aware he has an eye problem that was being managed but his condition did not improve and he had to fly to Europe to see his eye specialist.” Dr Adomako, Black Stars team doctor said.

His withdrawal on the eve of the mouthwatering encounter against Kenya takes coach Kwesi Appiah back to the drawing board since the former Anderlecht star was expected to command a pivotal role in the encounter.
