Mathare United and Tusker Football club played out to a two all draw in one of the Kenyan Premier League matches played on Sunday 23rd September at Ruaraka grounds.
Both teams started off strongly aiming to collect maximum points out of the encounter with both making lots of positive strides in the opening minutes but none to count for. Host Tusker came close in the 20th minute when Timothy Otieno had his hard taken shot going inches wide. Mathare grew into the game and they did not take long drawing the first blood just after the half hour mark through Cliff Nyakeya who lashed onto a pub point cut in criss from David Owino to make it one for the slum boys .
Mathare’s lead did not last with Tuskers immense pressure paying off in the 42nd minute when Timothy Otieno converting from the spot after David Owino had handled the ball in the penalty area. Upon resumption Tusker came strongly in search of a lead but there numerous attempts did not pay off. Mathare once went ahead on the hour mark with Nyakeya getting his double of the day from the spot after Omary Justin had handled the ball in the penalty area to hand mathare the lead.
Tusker kept on pressing and and with 10 minutes left to go, new entrant Sydney Ochieng pulled one back for the breweries to hand Tusker a point out of the encounter.
Relegation fears deepens
In other matches relegation bound sides Wazito and Thika United Football Clubs survival hopes worsened with Wazito playing out to a barren draw against Zoo Kericho while Thika United going down 1:0 to host Nzoia Sugar Football Club in Sudi. With the not so good results for both sides it now worsens their survival hopes for the two sides to stay afloat in the top tire league.
