Champions Gor Mahia were on Wednesday 26th September doomed to their sixth consecutive loss at the hands of Vihiga United Football Club in one of the Kenyan Premier League midweek matches.
Barely days after having registered a morale boosting win over mail men Posta Rangers Football Club, Vihiga survival surge continued by stunning League champions Gor Mahia at the Mumias Complex Stadium. Vihiga started off strongly and defending solidly with a clear intention to bag all the maximum points out of the encounter to assure their safety in the top flight league and they just did so by a convincing two nil victory over Gor . In the opening half both teams had their own clear chances with God’s Ephraim Guikan coming close in thr 26th minute with a neatly taken volley that only missed narrowly with the keeper all but well beaten.
Moments later Vihiga responded with a well executed counter attack involving Wonder John,Ademba Victor and Michael Wakanya with later only blasting over his powerfully taken shot.Vihiga’s pressure finally paid off drawing the first blood through Amos Kigadi in the 32nd minute making no mistakes tapping home Tera’s well driven in cross. Upon resumption Gor came strongly but their numerous attempts were not to count for,Vihiga then nailed the second of the day coming in the 63td minute through Dennis Wafula. The win now secures Vihiga United safety with two matches left to go.
Machakos quick fire
In Machakos double header, Tusker Football Club clawed leopards 4:0 in an entertaining match . Tusker youngster Sydney Ochieng scored a beauty before Marlow Tanguizi added the second one for the first half moments. In the second half tusker continued with their haunt and were rewarded with two more good quick fire goals from Boniface Muchiri and substitute Jackson Macharia late in the second half compounded Leopards misery.
The second encounter at the same venue Kariobangi Sharks inflicted more pinch on relegation bound side Wazito Football Club with a 2:1 victory over them. The loss means survival hopes for the Frank Ouna coached side hanging on a balance.
Earlier in Mumias host Kakamega homeboyz walked away with full points after having registered a one nil victory over sugar men Sony Sugar Football Club while at the Kasarani Stadium Mathare United had the same scoreline against mail men Posta Rangers. Clifford Alwanga struck with 4 minutes left on regular time to hand the slum boys victory in a match that was largely a balanced affair with lots of missed chances. At Camp Toyoyo grounds shoppers Nakumatt and Nzoia Sugar Football Clubs played out to a barren draw.
