viperss 1-0 Al merriekh (2-2 agg)
Uganda premier league champion sports club vipers showed great determination to overcome Al merriekh with 1-0 triumph in what was the return leg of thrilling preliminary round of caf champions league qualification
One extra-ordinary moment lit up St marys Studium with Abram Ndugwa’s wonder goal just after the break.
The first half of game began and finished with venoms playing in their own half as the Sudanese club kept on out-playing them giving them a hard test,a stern one which gave Martinez Espinoza an idea of just how tough life will be in caf champions league if they are to progress to group stages.
As Al merriekh kept on pressing ,two vipers players Brian Nkuubi and Geoffrey Waswa could not hold the pressure and got booked by the referee of the day Abdoul Twigiramukiza before the game headed for a break.
In an enventful start of the second half Abram Ndugwa rattled the Al Merriekh net with a splendid finish past goalkeeper Abdoul Monged .
Just six minutes after Davis Kasirye was sprung from the bench to replace Moses Waiswa ,he latched on a through pass from another second half substitute Noah Wafula but fired just over the bar.
Experienced visiting side could not give up and continued with a series of attacks against Espinoza’s side but thanks to the youngster goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya who made several saves to keep vipers hopes of reaching caf champions league group stages.
In the next round of qualification vipers will meet Algerian side CS Constantine who defeated Gambia’s Gamtel .
