AFCON: Egypt win rights to host 2019 edition

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has this afternoon Tuesday 08 January 2018  named Egypt as host of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a voting process that was conducted in Cairo, Egypt got 16 votes,15 in excess of South Africa who managed one vote with a further member of the CAF Executive Committee not voting.

Being the only two nations to have made  submissions to host the 2019 edition after host Cameroon were stripped of the rights in November for slow preparations, Egypt will now host the tournament after successfully emerging winners in a secret voting.

With six months to go,Egypt will now have to prepare in hosting an expanded 24-team Tournament which kicks off in July 2019. Subsequently CAF has also preserved Cameroon rights to host  next edition AFCON finals in two years time.
