Nkana,ZESCO renew rivalry

Nkana and ZESCO United are set to renew their rivalry in the season opener 2019 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield match to be played on Saturday,26th January at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
The fixture is a reflection of last season’s highly entertaining final of the competition which saw  striker Idris Mbombo stealing the show by scoring a brace for Nkana against his former side as Nkana beat ZESCO by a 4-3 scoreline.
The Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield is a competition that signals the start of the footballing season in Zambia with proceeds made from the competition going to a charity organization of the president’s choice.
The format of the competition this season has been changed from the old format which started at the semi-final stage (pitting the top four teams in the previous League season) to a one-match competition that will see the league winners and Barclays Cup winners facing off.
Nkana and ZESCO’s meeting will also signal the start of the transitional league, however, before they turn their attention to cancelling out each other on the local scene, they are this weekend scheduled to face FC San Pedro of Ivory Coast and Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa respectively in the CAF Confederation Cup Pre-Group stage playoff round first leg encounters at home.
