Uganda premier league defending Champions Sports club Vipers crashed Express FC 2-0 yesterday evening to go level on points with table leaders KCCA Fc.
Vipers was desperate for three points and needed to bounce back to winning ways after a mid week barren draw with Onduparaka in Arua .
They made two changes to the side that drew with Onduparaka, With Coach Michael Ouma preferring Dan Sserunkuma and Abraham Ndugwa ahead Rahmat Senfuka and Steven Mukwala.
Vipers looked more threatening from the start with Ndugwa combining effectively with Innocent Wafula and diminutive striker Dan mzee Sserunkuma.
Dan Sserunkuma indeed paid the coach when he opened the scoring in the 7th minute of game.Promising Aziz Kayondo collected a long range from Halid Lwaliwa and then crossed for Sserunkuma who calmly shot into back of the net to give the hosts a much needed lead.
As the game headed for half time, Vipers could have added to its tally but Tito Okello and Innocent Wafula wasted clear cut chances .
With three minutes remaining to see out halftime Sserunkuma was unfortunate as his efforts from kiyemba’s cross went wide .
Express Fc coach George Ssemwogerere made two changes , he brought on Tony Odur and former Katwe United Sadiq Ssekyembe to replace Joel Male and Shafik Nana Kakeeto.
Five minutes into the second half Sserunkuma got his second and doubled home side’s advantage. He bagged his 9th goal of the season when he latched into a bobbling Ndugwa’s pass slamming the ball into the back of the net giving Mathias Muwanga no chance.
Tony Odur went close for Express in 83rd minute but his powerful strike from Lawrence Kigonya cross went over the bar.
Vipers looked more superior with introduction of Moses Waiswa and Steven Mukwala and held on to bag 3 points.
The result leaves Vipers level on 45 points with KCCA but the venoms sit in second position having scored less goals.
