Kotoko,Al Hilal win at home as qualification race in group C gets on

Asante Kotoko and Al Hilal both won at home against Zambian opposition on Sunday night as the race to qualification gets heated up.

Kotoko who were coming into the encounter against Nkana bottom of the group with 3 points ran out 3-0 victors over their Zambian opponents at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi courtesy of first half goals from Abdul Fatawu Safiu, Emmanuel Gyamfi and Martin Antwi with Nkana goalkeeper Allan Chibwe who was withdrawn at the half-hour mark, guilty of making mistakes leading to all the goals scored.

Over in Omdurman,ZESCO United suffered the same fate as their countrymen did in Ghana as first-half goals from Mohamed Eldai and Waleed Bakhit Hamid as well as a 66th minute long range strike from captain Abdellatif Boya gave Al Hilal a precious 3-1 win over Zega Mambo.
Lazarus Kambole scored for the visitors 5 minutes to the half-time break to end the half with scores at 2-1 but it was not enough to see the 2016 champions league semi-finalists back in the game.

Al Hilal’s win on Sunday sees them go top of Group C with 7 points and a win over Asante Kotoko next weekend will leave the Crescent Club needing only a draw in their last group match at home to Nkana to progress to the next round.
Meanwhile,Asante Kotoko and Nkana are level on points with 6 each with the former second in the group with a better goal difference.
Wins for both teams on Matchday 5 will see them go first and second on 9 points and wins in the final round of matches will be what they will need to be assured of progression but draws could also see them through depending on the out come of the result in the other match.

Zambian champions ZESCO United find themselves in a more precarious situation as they will need to avoid defeat on Sunday against Nkana or they will be out of the competition and a draw would leave them needing a win in the last group match at home to Asante Kotoko whom they will also be hoping does them a favour by beating Al Hilal next weekend.
