GU,Galaxy face off in Top 8 final
The nation’s top cup competition comes to a conclusion on Saturday night with an expect fiercely competitive final between two of the biggest teams in the country on the cards.
Botswana Premier League sides Gaborone United and Jwaneng Galaxy will face off in the 2019 MASCOM Top 8 final to be played at the Sports Complex in Francistown.
GU who are going into the match looking to secure their third Top 8 title,made the final after beating defending champions Township Rollers 10-9 on post match penalties after playing out to a 3-3 draw over two legs.
Meanwhile,Galaxy who are looking to equal to the record held by GU and Rollers of having won the competition twice,cruised to the final after rallying to a 3-1 aggregate win over army-sponsored BDF XI side in the semi-finals.
Galaxy will be relying on former GU striker Tebogo Sembowa who is looking for a fifth winner’s medal in the competition to provide them with the goals against his former employers while GU are will be hoping Obonwe Maome who currently leads the scorers chart in the competition jointly Sembowa adds to his 2 goals in the competition.
The winners at the end of the encounter will confirm their place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup and pocket P1.3m ($120,000).
