Cedric Amisi’s goal sends Burundi to first ever AFCON

Cedrick Amisi’s goal sent Burundi to their first ever African Cup of Nations despite the East African nation holding Gabon to 1-1 draw in a tense encounter staged at the Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore in Bujumbura

Burundi needed a draw to qualify ,but a star studded Gabon led by Arsenal star Pierre Emerick Aubumeyang could not stop the Swallows from gracing the Egypt event .

After a goalless first half with both teams missing chances ,Fiston Razak could have put the host ahead but his header surprisingly fell on the hands of Gabon keeper .

The host pressed on and their resilience paid when Cedric Amisi fired past the Gabon keeper sending the crowd into frenzy .

Omar Ngando’s own goal drew the visitors  level with just less than ten minutes to go but Burundi pressed on tightly to go through .


Burundi joins fellow East African sides Kenya and Uganda in the finals with Tanzania’s fate to be decided tomorrow
