Host Egypt got off to a winning start with a 40th minute beauty strike from Mohamed Trezequet proving the difference as the two sides battled out in an entertaining opmening match of the 2019 AFCON edition.
Largely the dominant side ,the Pharaos could not break through Sibanda who proved a solid nut for the Warriors pulling strings of saves. His first save of the night on 5th mintue pairing out Liverpools Mohamed Salah’s header before moments later rising above to finger tip out goal bound attempt by Trezequet.
Zimbabwe grew into the match causing havoc at the Egyptian defence with Khama Billiat being the tomentor but a costly mistake by the captain Knowledge Musona would gift Egypt the lead as Trezequet stepped in to slot in the opener.
In a more pacey second half both teams showed intent of hunger with Keeper Sibanda the busiest standing tall to keep a respectable scoreline before being streched out injured. Host Egypt now top Group A on three points.
