Ighalo inspires Nigeria past resilient Burundi

Nigeria kick started their African Cup Of Nations 2019 campaign with a slim 1:0 win over Burundi in Alexandria Egypt.

In the second match of the evening and the third of the tournament, Nigeria had to wait for a whole 77 minutes to break through a hard fighting and defending side with Odion Ighalo being the hero separating the two sides with a super goal  with  his first touch on the ball.

In a largely balanced duel Burundi proved a mark of themselves pushing Super eagles who are tipped as one of the favourites for the trophy all the way with strings of attacks from Fiston Razak and  Nsabiyumva Frederic but none to could for.  Nigeria would then grow more lively in the match with Iwobi ,Paul Onuachu and   Samuel Chukwueze runs and attacks not proving enough to beat off Daniel Akpeyi  in goal for Burundi.

Ighalo’s winner

On return for final half ,Nigeria head coach, Rohr pulled out captain Mikel for Ahmed Musa but the change would prove ineffective forcing him to make another change bringing on Odion Ighalo for Paul Onuachu a move that proved fruitful.

With just four minutes having stepped in ,Ighalo scored a wonder goal with his first touch on ball after being set through by Ian Aina from tantalizing back heal pass to give eagles the vital win to go top of group B.
