Sam Johnson brace inspires Real Salt Lake to 2-0 win over Sporting KC

Liberian forward, Sam Johnson scored twice and Real Salt Lake beat Sporting Kansas City 2-0 on Saturday night at home in a major league Soccer match played at the Rio tino staduim in Salt Lake.
The former Djugarden forward Johnson opened the scoring in the 16th minute after the croatian Damir Kreilach played the ball from the right side of the 18-yard box with his right foot to Kyle Beckerman, who was inside the box who headed the ball to Sam Johnson and the Liberian forward wasted no time to get his foot on the object to put his side in front over their Western conference rivals.

Matt Besler’s defensive error for Sporting near midfield led to a Real Salt Lake counterattack that ended with Johnson’s second goal in the 29th.

Albert Rusnák collected the wasted ball that Besler misplayed, and that led to a three-on-one game into the penalty area and the Slovakia Winger Rusnàk than fed it back to the middle where Kreilach and Johnson were trailing. Kreilach touched it first, teeing it up for Johnson’s strike to make the scoreboard 2-0 in front of record crowd at the Rio tino stadium.

Kreilach said of the goal after the game : “To be honest, I didn’t see him,” Kreilach said of Johnson. “I just take first touch and want just to shoot it. But overall, the most important thing, he scored. Every one of us should be happy.”

The goal however, was his seventh of the season for RSL.
Sam Johnson has been in and out of the Real Salt Lake starting lineup in recent weeks. He was benched last month for being late to a team meeting, then had his minutes monitored at times due to a lingering knee issue.

But in Saturday’s game against Sporting Kansas City, was a different scenario as the Real Salt Lake striker reminded all 18,933 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium why Utah brought him to the MLS, Johnson scored two goals and led RSL to a inspiring 2-0 win over Sporting KC.

Real scored both goals in the first half and had a couple of opportunities to add to the lead in the second. Sporting, on the other hand, struggled to get chances all evening.

It’s was the first meeting of the season between RSL and Sporting KC With the win, RSL has now put to an end their three game winless run.

The club currently sits at 8 places on the MLS log with 23 points out of 27 league matches.
Sam Johnson was bought from Noweigain Club Valerenga as a designate player and striker is surely making most of the chances he is given.
