Host Egypt beat Uganda 2:0 on Sunday night to finish top of Group A in a match staged in Alexandria Egypt.
Touted biggest match of the day,host Egypt rose to occasion producing a convincing 2:0 win over cranes with a spectacular Mohamed Salah free kick and aalong range strike from captain El Mohamedy.
In a lively encounter full of missed chances,cranes missed out on several clear chances to punish Egypt in the early opening minutes. This would in turn haunt them just after half an hour of play, Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah struck in a spectacular goal from a long range dead ball piece.
With a minute to half time break,Egypt less of the dominant side but dangerous on goal would double their lead through captain Ahmed El Mohamedy who lashed on a lose ball that viad off Luwaga Kizito into the net past Dennis Onyango for the second goal of the night.
A largely balanced second half had Uganda attacking more with Abdu Lumala tripple attempt being safely handled by Mohamed El Shenawy in goal for the pharaos. Denis Onyango would also make a swift reaction saving Mohamed Salah’s goal bound chip in. The host tops the group on 9 points and become the first side winning all their group matches in this year’s edition.
In the other match DR Congo thumped warriors of Zimbabwe 4:0 to finsh third in group A with 3points while Zimbabwe walking out empty handed with no single point to count for.
