NSL side Vihiga united has made major changes in its technical and playing unit in a move that is seen to bolster its squad and chances of returning to the top tier as the new season begins over the weekend.
Vihiga united that was promoted to Kenyan Premier League in 2017 was relegated last season, just two seasons thereafter.
Yesterday the team unveiled its players and technical team ahead of the new season with the chairman putting it straight that their main target will be to bring back the team to Kenyan Premier league next season.
Sammy Okoth who took over from Mike Mururi last season on interim basis has been confirmed on permanent basis as the headcoach and will be joined by former Kenyan international Nick Yakhama from Zoo kericho as a technical Director and Collins Oduor as Goalkeeper trainer.
The team has acquired ten new faces in the playing unit,Peter Joma(Zoo youth),Hillary Otieno and Kelvin Okinda(A.P.Nairobi),Richard Swegenyi(Vihiga spotiff) Morgan Abuko(Chemilil),Kevin Opiyo(Thika),Leslie Otieno(Kariobangi sharks youth),Mark Owino(Kenyatta University),Abisolom Onyango (
Migori youth) and Michael Odongo(Thika)
Those who gave the way to the new injection include International defender and skipper Benard Ochieng who left for Moneybags Wazito fc,Vincent Wonder(
Afc leopards),Chris Masinza and Journey man Stephen Wakanya (Kakamega Homeboyz) Other ;Amos Kigadi,Kelvin Muhoji,David Kivaji,Godfrey Airo,Edwin Mukoya,Rashid Kyammbade,Caleb Wamalwa,Patrick Ndikuyiro,Levis Opiyo, Edmond Mauda,Elijah Mwanzia and Timothy Luda. 15 Players from the last seasons team were retained.

On his part Deputy Governor Patrick Saisi who was present assured the team of the Vihiga County Government support.”the county is still commited to the team and will do its best to help the team in whatever possible way so that it regains its status” Said Saisi.
