The year 2019 will probably go down as one of the grimmest years in the history of Liberian football in Liberia, as the national team of Liberia the Lone Star, failed to reach the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage qualifier and was eliminated by the little known CHAD, in a two legs preliminary rounds AFCON qualifier.
With that hugely reflected in the mines of several Liberian football lovers, the Country still has some light to burn in 2020, as another World Cup Qualifying Competition resumed, the West African Country Under the Watchful eyes of English Coach Peter Butler will compete for a slot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be Stage in Dubai, Qatar. with this high on the Agenda of Liberian football former Bosawana Coach Butler, who has a one -year Contract mandate to Qualify the Lone Star in what will be its first ever FIFA World showing.
On the heels of that Liberian Sports International take a look at the Top 50 and Best Liberian players playing abroad for 2019. whom could offer a lot of hope for the Country Future. However, few of them distinguished themselves to deserve a mention in our list.
LSI sports again has compiled a list of Liberian players who put up the best of performances in the year under review:
50. John Waller – Napa Vall 1839 Age
The Liberian defender John Waller has been consistent so far this season with Napa Valley 1839 in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) the 25-year-old defender has played in all Napa Valley games this season he joined the Club from rival Detroit City.
Waller is a vigorous right back, with lot of Energy , he is certainly one of the brightest prospect in the (NPSL).
49. Rufus Afropong -Colorado switback Age (23)
Rufus is a semi-pro soccer player from Liberia. His father is from Ghana, Rufus was born and raised in Monrovia, after High School Education, the (civil war) drove the little Rufus and his family to Neighboring Sierra Leone, he later returned to Monrovia after the Conflict and enrolled at the University of Liberia, before his parents thought it could be better Rufus further his Education Journey in the United state, he was immediately flown to West Virginia, this is where it all started for Rufus Afropong.
He currently plays for colorado switback a team participating in the United States Soccer League (USL) Championship and has rapidly adopted to the Club first team, after he flourish with the switback U23, playing eight matches and was promoted to the Club first team.
48.Ricardo George – Atlanta SC Age (21)
At Spot Number 48 is Ricardo George of Atlanta Soccer Club in the National Independent Soccer Association of America, Ricardo George At one point time written off as a wasted talent by Bethelham Steel, but has since rejuvenated his career in the best possible way moving to Atlanta SC in the (NISA) League the third-tier of American football.
Ricardo is just 21-year -old and has establish himself as a regular foot-back for the Club, George always looks to motivate and really a promising defender who should never be overlook. Coming from grassroot Liberia , Ricardo George started at Cedar Stars Academy in the USA, before going on a trial at USL Championship side Bethlehem Steel but failed to impressed as he revamp his career at Atlanta SC.
47. Anthony Laffor- Mamelodi Sundown Age (34)
Laffor scored a couple of goals for Sundwon during the first half of the season, including his CAF Champion League goal against Asec Mimosas and Lobi Star as well as his only Absa Premier goal of the Season against rival Kaizer Chief, therefore bringing his number of goals to three in all Competition for the Brazilians in Six matches for 2019, but the Liberian forward has struggled since the season started. However, he has managed to make a couple of appearances as he battle the knee injury, the 34-year-old is heading to the final six months of his Contract with the South African Club by 2020.
He has played 7 seasons, during this time he played 82 matches and scored 20 goals for the Club, winning 12 major trophies.
46. Saah Tboy- Vancouver Whitecaps Age (18)
Saah T-Boy Fayia is an 18-year-old Canada -born Liberian descent striker, who currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps Under-18 youth team.He is the Cousin to Canada – Liberian defender Hanson Tamba Boakai, who plays for FC Intertuku in the Finland top flight.
Fayia grew up playing soccer, he was five year- old when he started playing soccer for Edmonton as Striker and has since gone on to breakthrough from the Edmonton U15, U16 and now with the Edmonton under -17.
The 18-year-old is dazzling dribbler and has good speed and technical ability to run defenders, he likes Joggling with the ball and has often been doubted as the Next Ronaldinho, for his amazing Skills.
The Vancouver Whitecaps prodigy has started five out of five this Season for his Club in the Elysa Championship in the 2019/2020 Campaign and has played an overall of 21games from 2018 to presence including eight appearances in the previous season.
T-boy Fayia previously played with Sherwood Park before joining Whitecaps FC Residency in August 2015.
45. Kanibah – Kutu- Akoi- Philadelphia Lone Star Age ( 20)
What a year it’s been for Kanibah – Kutu- Akoi-who has announced himself as the next great hope of the Liberia- Lone Star . Kutu- Akoi has quickly called the attention of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to hand him a U20 Call-up to the Liberia National under-20 team , he went on to make his debut in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Under-20 Nations Cup in Dakar, Senegal with the local Lone Star.
Akoi has also made 6 appearances for Philadelphia Lone Star across 540 minutes scoring just just once, than his previous static in 2018, where the 20-year-old gain prominence with 18appearance 15 Starts in 1327 Minutes across all competitions for Junior Lone Star II.
44. Seku Conneh- Las Vegas Light FC Age (24)
It has to take Seku Conneh a little time to settle at his new club Las Vegas Light, despite the fact he has previously had a stint in the USL Championship with Bethlehem Steel of whom he stole the show in American Soccer scoring 12th goals in 43 appearances for the steel in the 2016/20017 season.Seku has since struggled to replicate his Best form, after he left Europe for America switching from Dutch eretise division side TOP Oss to the Steel FC in a mouthwatering deal, the 24-year-old last played for Serbian Superliga side Vojvodina Novi Sad, where he managed four appearances for the club spread over 244minutes.
He has also played for South Korean side Ansar Greener making 26 appearances, Conneh is a graduates of the famous Ajax Amsterdam Academy.
43. Hassan Kanneh- Sodertālje FK Age (27)
Ben has resurface in Finnish football Signing a short terms Contract with Sudet Kouvola in the Kakkonen League as a way to put his career back track, he has played 9 matches scoring two goals in the Finnish Kakkonen Group A Championship this season.
The 26-year- old has previously plays for Mikkelin Kissat (MiKi), and FC Haka of Finland, as well as Eskilstuna City in Sweden.
The Striker born in Monrovia and raised in the US, hasn’t played for any country at International level and would accept an opportunity to played for Liberia.
41. Archie Harvey -Nybergsund Age (27)
Archie Harvey is one player who has been phenomenal in Swedish football, since the day he seek Soccer adventure in that part of the World, the fullback turns Winger has previously played for Motala AIF, Södertälje FK, Arameisk-Syrianska IF, and Assyriska FF, before switching to Norway and has played just one match for Nybergsund in the Norwegian League, the defender look struggling to replicate his best form he had in Sweden.
The 27-year- old also a former player of Monrovia FC, looks confident in defence with lot of energy and Speed, he is capable of Competing for the fullback position on the Liberia National team.
40. Adolphus Marshall- St. George’s FC Age (27)
Marshall maybe forgotten but the defender is still making headlines in Malta, Currently plays for St. George FC in the Maltese First division on loan from Gudja United, the 27-year-old has made Nine Appearances and a goal for the Club across 729 minutes so far this season.
Although he has scored just a goal, the contributions of the former Lone Star defender cannot be overlooked. Remember the former Ps Bangka and Persire Bali Devata defender helped Gudja United, to promotion in the Maltese Premier League during 2018/2019 season and was nominated for the 2nd Division Player of the Year Award, Marshall has six capped for the Liberia National team.
39.Alex Nimely – Kettering FC Age (28)
It has been really frustrating in recent campaign for the former Manchester City forward, who last played for Finnish Club Honka, making 20 appearances without hitting the back of the net, something embarrassing for a player who was sorted to be the next George Weah at the time of his development in England.
However things have taken a different trend as the former Manchester City Academy graduates had when on to played in Several topflight League around Europe in an attempt to rediscover his form that caught the eyes of Man City to signed he in 2006.
Having spend a time with English’s Clubs Middlesbrough (loan), Crystal Palace (loan), Coventry City (loan) and Port Vale as well as Romania clubs Poli Timişoara, and FC Viitorul Constanţa, the former Mighty Barrolle forward went on to played for Norwegian side Stabaek, before joining Finnish Veikkausliiga side FC Honka, where Nimely found life difficult playing 20 matches without goal.
Nimely terminated the Contract with Honka and decided to move to English Sixth League side Kettering, where he had continue to struggle to replicate his form playing four matches with just a goal, the 28-year-old is now sideline with Sprained Ankle injury and would returned to action soon.
38. Keith Nah- Shan United Age (27)
Who is he:He’s Keith Malouda Nah,how could you forget his name?
A former player of Sensational LPRC Oilers tenacious striker, Keith Nah is the type of player who will not rest until he’s scored a goal by nutmegging the keeper.
Still remembering his days on the local scene,Keith Nah swapped Africa for Asia in 2011 to seek soccer adventure, he had previously played for Spanish Segunda side SD Ponferradina in 2018 and Malaysian side Kedah FA.
Malouda as he is nickname to the former Chelsea and French star, currently plays for Shan United in the Myanmar National League, he scored 10 goals in 18 matches for Ayeyawady before securing the transfer to Shan United for the 2020 Season.
37. Boison Wynney – Doxa Dramas Age (23)
The goal keeper was a Standout performer last year on our list, his excellent goalkeeping skill is something that can never go unnoticed, in fact Boison Wynney Confidence level and just his ability to organize his backline is something really amazing for a young goalkeeper of such kind,he is Expectional and the most of all his foot work, passing ability is so much good that any European club could need.
Boison signing for Greek Super League two side Doxa Dramas is no surprise as the 23-year-old is on record of being the best Liberian goalkeeper abroad, his good grades can been look at RCD Mallorca in 2017, where he had 8 clean sheets in several outings.
36. Afred Jaryan – Aizawl Age (31)
Afred Jaryan,31,is a tackles specialist in the heart of the Aizawl midfield, Afred loves shots, but yet to score a goal playing a total of 17 matches in the I- League last Campaign and he evaluated to three assists.His overall appearances for Aizawl FC is 72 Caps for the club, since his induction in the Hero I-League 2015.
He scored his first goal for the Club against DSK Shivaijans in just his third appearance in India’s football League.
35. Teah Dennis – Indian club Punjab
F.C. Age (27)
This 6′ 2″ Center-back is one of the best defenders that Liberia can boost of over the years, since his inception into limelight 2008, Teah Baysah Dennis has established himself as the number center – back for the Liberia National team.
Currently playing for Indian I- League side Punjab F.C.teddy as he well known has managed three appearances in 270″ minutes and has approximately 29 Caps for the Liberia National team.
34. Hanson Boakai- Inter Turku Age (23)
Hanson Boakai is a Guinean- born Liberian fullback back,Currently playing for Finnish Veikkausliga Club Inter Turku and has had an incredible start to the current season,after underwhelming at Edmonton.
Boakai has shown a natural ability to interrupt opposition attacks in Finnish Super League this season. His tackling, intercepting, Crossing and blocking has been on point, and he has also chipped in with one goal in 15 matches for the Club including an appearance in the 2019 Europa League. He holds the record for the youngest player ever to appear in a North American Soccer League (NASL) game for Edmonton.
The 23-year-old was born in Nzérékorè to a Liberian parents but yet to pledge his Allegience to any of the countries in International football.
33. Nicolas Andrew- KF Drenica Age (21)
Andrew is an Electric-paced forward who has created a buzz in the Kosovo League recently because of his extraordinary talent, at what is still a young age of 21,Nick as he is affectionately known is a creative forward who has made an instant impact since he took loan from Kosovo giant KF Feronikeli to KF Drenica to scored four goals in 9appearances in the IPKO Superliga,the former Club Breweries Alumni has since return to Feronikeli and is expected of bigger things this 2020.
32. Terrence Tisdell – Baroka Age (21)
The Powerful Winger is already on his way out of Baroka FC as soon as we conclude the year 2019, Terrence Morris Tisdell is another player on our list. He was part of the exceptional costa dol sol side that Conquered Mozambique back in 2018.
Tisdell eventually move to Europe when he signed for Portuguese Club Associação Desportiva Sanjoanense, he proved his amazing skills and speed making 18 appearances and coverted two goals in the Campeonato de Portugal a second -tier football League in that part of Europe.
After a year with the Club Tisdell decided to return to Africa, taking many by surprise, despite numerous of Major European clubs linked to his signature, Tisdell chose to signed for South Africa Premier League Club Baroka in July 2019.
It has been slow start to the season for the fast fury Winger who has manage to win seven league appearances without a goal for the Club. Baroka chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele, recently annouced that Terrence will be departing the club at the end of the year. Stating in a quote to South African Media kickoff sports, that the Club is releasing the 21-year-old on ground he has failed to adapt to the style of South African football.
Mphahlele said last month: Yes Terrence is leaving; we are releasing him, because he is not adapting. He is actually leaving at the end of December. He is leaving for free,” the club chairman told KickOff Sports.
31. William Jebor- Al- Fujairah Age (27)
The goals haven’t flown in at Al- Fujairah quite as regularly as they did at Wydad Casablanca between 2017-2019, when the Liberian forward Shrone the African Continent with his Energetic goal scoring ability rounding off a total of 26 goals in 42 appearances,he captured the Botola League and golden shoe on that events. Despite the goals not coming as it did in the past but William Jebor still remains one of Africa’s deadliest frontmen.
He is on record of being only the second Liberian to be an Africa Footballer of the Year nominee,after George Weah, who won the prestigious award three times.
In many ways Jebor is the complete package; he is powerful and provides an attacking presence, yet at the same time he has an excellent turn of pace and knows how to knock the ball past defenders and beat them on the ground.
He can also create goals as well;Jebor has made 11 appearances so far this season without hitting the back of the net. And has 16caps for the Liberia National team scoring 12goals thus far making him the leading scorer of the current generation of Lone Star players.
30. Nelson Koning – Excelsior U21 Age (19)
Life is rarely quiet for the Young Nelson. His save statistics were excellent at Excelsior U19 last Season, in fact he kept 13 Clean Sheets in 22 matches last year making he one of the Best young goal keeper in the Dutch eerste divisie and that eventually caught the eyes of Excelsior Coach Ricardo Moniz to hand the Dutch -born Liberian goalkeeper a first team opportunity.
Yet to Signed his first professional Contract with the Club,Nelson Konings, has often been training with the Club first team and was once named on the substitute bench for the Excelsior Eredivisie League match 4-1 defeat to De Graafschap back in 2018 but was unused substitute by than Coach Andrie Poldervaart.
Nelson is currently with the SBV Excelsior Rotterdam U21 reserve team and optimistic of a first team chance sooner.
He was born to a Dutch father and a Liberian mother in Netherlands but has given greenlight to play for Liberia. The 19-year-old has on several occasion expressed his desire to play for Liberia at International level.
29. Faisu Sangare – Wolverhampton U18
Faisu Sangare is the younger brother of Newcastle Midfielder Mohammed Sangare but is fast becoming a big-name player in his own right.
Sangare has proven to be an effective forward on the left or right side of the central striker at the Wolverhampton Wanderers U18s scoring four goals for the Wanderers U18 in the U18 Premier League. He is an effective crosser of the football, can play an excellent defence-splitting through ball, and often makes a game-changing play
Faisu recently sign his first Scholarship Contract to remain at Wolverhampton Wanderers U18 until 2021 as he continues to adventure his Career.
28. Joel Johnson- Independence Age (27)
The Spanish- born Liberian full-back has been on the road for a long time, but he is as energetic (and tenacious in the tackle) and as ever good as his crosses on the Wings, Joel is really instrumental in many of Independence goals this season.
The former Real Madrid youth player has been so solid at the full-back position and take real skills, speed and smartness to beat he in the Charlotte defence that earned he the first of possibly many full international caps for Liberia in 2018.
27. Moses Nyeman- DC United – Age (16)
The 16-year-old is surely making name for himself in the United States and would soon become a Stardom in American Soccer,already one of the brightest prospect in USA, Nyeman has scored one goal in 15games for Loudoun United FC on loaned from DC United.
Born in Liberia,Moses Nyeman has been a member of the D.C. United academy since 2015 at the U-12 level.The midfielder has appeared in 83 games (70 starts) for the Black-and-Red. Nyeman has scored 10 goals for United’s Academy and his impressive performances earned him a call-up to the U.S. U-16 Boys’National Team Training Camp in 2018.
Nyeman made his professional debut for United’s USL Championship affiliate club, Loudoun United FC, as a 71st-minute substitute against the Swope Park Rangers on June 6, 2019. The academy product made his full professional debut as a starter for Loudoun against Louisville City FC on June 9 and played 61 minutes in the match. Moses recorded his first professional goal for LUFC on July 29 in the 87th-minute to secure a 3-0 win against Louisville City. In total,Nyeman has scored one goal and recorded one assist in 15 games (six starts) for Loudoun United in 2019.
26. Yaya Dukuly – Melbourne City Age (17)
What a year it’s been for the Melbourne academy graduate. In less than nine months, Yaya Dukuly has made a dream World Cup debut for the Australia Under-17 at the Brazil 2019 FIFA under-17 World,not only that Dukuly has quickly become a part of the Melbourne City first team signing his first professional Hyundai A-League contract with the Club last September 2019.
Remember He still has plenty to improve on, but plays the game beyond your average 17-year-old; distributing the ball with the composure that’s quickly won him a place in Erick Mombaerts good books.
Don’t get it twisted Yaya Dukuly was born in Guinea, to a Liberian Parents, and had a time in Liberia,before the Civil War, drove he and his family out of West Africa to find resettlement in Austrialia,this is how it all started for the promising lad.
25. Prince Balde – Feronikeli Drenas Age (21)
Despite being only 21, Prince Balde is already one of Liberia’s most established defenders in Europe and this will be surprising to you, but the former Monrovia Club Breweries defender is in just his second year in European Football after departing his native Monrovia in 2018 to seek greener pasteur in Kosovo.
He has made over 30 league appearances for two of Kosovo’s biggest clubs, KF Feronikeli Drenas and KF Drenica,and already has two caps for Liberia.
Balde is an exceptionally versatile competitor,and while he hasn’t escaped criticism during the last few years of disappointment and underachievement in the his local Liberian League, he has improved considerably and is now a one of the brightest defender that the Lone Star could boost of. His fine displayed in IPKO Superliga has earned recognition for a return to the Liberia National team,but will have to wait until next year when the Country resumed World Cup qualifying action on the road to Qatar 2022,after a propose friendly match against Iran was cut off due to terms and Conditions.
Prince Balde has gradually gotten the sweet taste of European and will hope to impress more in 2020 as the Central defender have already catch the eyes of few of Europe topflight Clubs, with his 14 appearances and one goal on loan at KF Drenica,opting his return to parental club KF Feronikeli Drenas for the 2019/2020 Campaign.
24. Eugene Chouchou Swen- Energetik-BGU Minsk Age (21)
If half Season with Energetik-BGU Minsk is anything to go by, than Eugene Swen is definetely looks fit and ready to go to the Top of European football anytime Sonner, His performance with BGU Minsk last seson should concerning to all Belarusian Club that he is very serious about breaking through European football by whatever means he can.
Swen 11games in the Vysheyshaya liga as emerged he as the answer to BGU Minsk problems in Central defense last season, the Belarusian Club also benefitted from the transfer of the former Barrack Young Controller Man, given the fact that he can also play midfield role and will now get the chance to complete a full campaign for the students in the Belarus topflight next season.
23.Stephen Seamah- Costa do Sol Age (22)
Seamah is one of keys to the balance that Mozambique giant Costa do sol can rely on as his influential ability to pass and press at the same time has been a great helped in the Club winning the 2019 Mocambola league.
And the energetic midfielder was rewarded with best midfielder award in the Moçambola league for his instrumental role played during the season.
Games of football are won and lost in the midfields, and no one exemplifies this mid-fielding mindset like Seamah.
He’s a jack of all trades, outstanding at clawing possession away, while holding it in a death grip for his own squad. He’s that classic player who can dive in front of a streaking shot on one end, then pop it in the net at the other. this should be quickly recognized to recoup the former Liscr Midfielder to found an integral part in the Current Lone Star team.
22. Tonia Tisdell- Nea Salamis Age ( 26)
Sometimes it just takes a change of scene for a player to unveil himself before the watching world.
Tonia Tisdell was signed to a substitute role for much of last season with Turkish Club Denizlispor,not even scoring a goal in his 12 Appearances with the Club,while he was in the process of reshaping to his Best form he had at Osmanlispor,scoring 9 goals in all 67 appearances for the Club across Seven seasons,spending series of his time on loan spells.
However,a move across Northern Cyprus, to Nea Salamis,in January 2019,has prompted a turn up in fortunes for the Liberian frontman. who has already scored just once and serve provider on two ocassions in 16 games so far this term, and even if Salamin’s form hasn’t been excellent,Tisdell has been one of Cypriot first division League most impressive forwards.
Tonia has 12 caps for Liberia and was recently expelled from the National team,after disorderly Conduct ahead of the FIFA preliminary World Cup qualifying Match against Sierra Leone last September,the forward however reconciled with head coach Peter Butler and has since been pardon,but yet to return to the Lone Star team.
Despite the likes of William Jebor, Peter Wilson,Sylvanus Nimely, Kpah Sherman and Sam Johnson whom all look set to shoulder the scoring burden for Liberia in next year Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier,but don’t be surprised to see Tonia Tisdell force his way from the bench to the starting XI for the Lone Star of Liberia.
21. Cheriff Diallo-Fezzanese Calcio Age (22)
Here is another fine prospect, 22-year-old Striker Cherif Mohammed Diallo who is Already a recipient of 52 caps 9 goals,two assists in all CCompetition for the Port Venera side,Diallo advanced through Fezzanese Calcio youth setup Ceperana,where he scored 16 goals in 23 Appearance in the Italian amateur League,before making his first professional contract with the Club first and made his senior debut in 2018.
After a promising debut season with the first team, Diallo took massive strides last campaign while scoring five goals and adding two assists from 32 games and eventually become a hit in the Girone A Series D.
Diallo has caught the eyes of several topflights clubs both in the Series A & B,but the former Keitrace FC forward price tag is reportedly around £$75k at the moment,and that seem to be too high for the suitors.
20.Vajeba Sakor – OFI Crete Age (23)
He may only have just one assist to his name in 14 matches this season, but the Liberian -born Norweigan defender -con -midfielder’s is proving his worth in Greek football, a year after signing for -the Heraklion Island of Crete base Club and has been exactly what the O Òmilos needed.
Sakor has established himself as a first-team regular, OFI Crete have enjoyed a creative and dextrous addition to their midfield plus Components in defense as they chase for European Competition next Season.
The Òmilos currently sit in fourth on the Greece Super League table with 20points from 16 matches, thank to a good work rate from the 23-year-old Vajeba Sakor, who looks much confident with enthusias to roll on, the Crete are so much lucky to have a player of such qualities who can play both midfield and in defense, the future’s look bright.
Sackor is a former Academy graduate of Italian Club, Juventus, He was born in Liberia to Guinean Mother and a Liberian father in Lofa County, and moved to Norway at the age of four there it all started for Vajeba, who have since went on to play for Swedish Club IFK Göteberg, Norweigan side Valerënga and Dutch Club Williem II, despite playing for Norway at all youth levels Sakor is yet to future for the Senior Norwegian National team, leaving his arms open to Liberia.
19. Mohammed Sangare – Newcastle Age (20)
There’s nothing to dislike about Mo Sangare. The powerful 6ft 3in box-to-box midfielder is the creative force behind everything good at Newcastle United U23 He’s been an absolute maestro for the Magpies in the English Professionals Development League the Premier League 2, over the last two seasons,including a monstrous 2018-19 campaign in which he made 21 appearances for the under-23.
Now Sangare is hoping to become the next Newcastle academy prospect to break into the Toon’s first team and have even drawing comparation to former Newcastle Mo Diame,whose strengths are his power and passing.
Sangare,20,was born and raised in Liberia and moved to England when he was 14.
18.Leon Taylor -Chin United Age (22)
The youngest player on this list, Leon Taylor is an acknowledging talent in Myanmar football,scoring 17 goals and winning topscorer award in that type of football in that part of Asia is something that deserve credit.
Well he is just 22-years of age,his scoring ability has not been hidden, despite he playing in an underrated League,but his performance is something that will soon attracts Europe’s attention and bet on it or not Leon will soon be a Superstar that you wouldn’t just imaging come from a low standard of Myanmar.
