The Sports Writers Association of Liberia,SWAL is calling on government through the Ministries Of Health and Youth and Sports to immediately lift the ban placed on sporting activities across Liberia.
It can be recalled in April 2020, the Ministry of health placed an indefinite ban on sports across the country to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
SWAL believes that unlike in the past, the pandemic does not pose any serious threat to the sector especially with significant reduction in the number of cases as such the sports ban must be lifted.
The sports writers argued that the lifting of the ban on the sporting activities is very necessary to help the country athletes and teams who have been sitting for nearly six months to get on par with their counterparts including preparing them for international competitions.
SWAL further stressed that there is no need to keep the sporting sector on hold when politicians and other state actors are seen in gross violation of the health protocols in the face of the Ministry of Health while the legitimate sporting federations and associations are being held hostage.
The pen pushers described such as counterproductive and unfair to the Liberian sporting sector as such, the Liberian sporting press wants health authorities to see reason to permit the resumption of sporting activities across Liberia as is been done in other countries.
The Sports writers Association of Liberia, SWAL believes that if the ban is lifted, the Ministry of health in collaborations with partners can develop a health protocol to be adapted by sporting federations during games to curb the pandemic.
