Liberian- Born- American Abigail Kim delighted with Fiorentina debut…poison of impact in Italian Football

Abigail Kim: “I feel happy here and am looking forward to achieving big things with Fiorentina” sharp Winger said in an LSI Interview.

Liberia- born United States Women National Team USWNT U20 Striker Abigail Kim has expressed her delight at making a successful debut for Fiorentina Women in the Italian Femminile Serie A.

The Liberian- American also expressed great desire to help the Fiorentina Women Soccer team and to improve herself with so much enthusiasm. Kim was pleased with her ACF Fiorentina Femminile debut in their 2-2 draw with Roma Women in Match day 6, of the Super Italian Women Serie A League match. The former Orlando Pride forward replaced Portuguese international Claudia Neto in the 86th minutes of the game.

Abigail Kim joined Fiorentina Femminile in July 2020 from National Women Soccer League NWSL side Orlando Pride but the transfer was delayed for two months as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic and restricted travels measures across the World.

The transfer was made official on October 17, 2020,after Kim had awaited months in quarantine and clear Covid-19 testing.

“Playing my first game for my new club was the realization of a dream come true,”reflected Kim “I am glad everything went well for me.”I was quite nervous but ready at the same time to put out good performance to show my worth, She told Liberian Sports International.

Having arrived just recently as the team’s first Liberian-born-American Female Soccer Star signing for an Italian Women team, the Monrovia native of a Korean-American and Ghanaian descent expressed her gratitute for the Fiorentina technical staffs, as she looks forward for more opportunities and game time.

It’s understandable that when such a team shows interest,you listen.“I think when the opportunity came about, I thought it was the right time for me to make my move to Europe,”Kim said.

She continued in a conversation with Sokafrika Journalist Emmanuel wise Jipoh: “I wanted to be out of my comfort zone as well, and pick up a new challenge elsewhere, so when Florence came,I definitely had no option but to come and show out my talent to the World, Kim stressed.

When you are out of your comfort zone, that’s when you are pushed so that’s what I wanted to be. I just want to be the best player I can be.”the 21-year-old forward said.

“It’s been a big change for me coming from the [United] States,” she said.
“I feel like I’m really settling in well here, and I am feeling the real excitement of Italian football,and enjoying myself. I’m very happy to be here and I have settled into my apartment now,in training and got a few games under my belt.

It’s been a really good months in quarantine and outdoor and I can’t wait for the next exciting opportunities and moments with the team.” Kim said.

Kim,21,has already notched up a couple of minutes with Fiorentina in recent week, playing in the 2-2 draw with Roma and 2-0 victory over Pink Bari, and the next couple of weeks could see Abigail Kim earning her first start with the Antonio Cincotta ladies.

The Gigliate are up next against AC Milian in the Italian Women Football Serie A, Competition on December 5,and Kim hope to get a chance in that crucial encounter as she look forward to earning her first start for the club.

She emphasized that a short time training with the Viola has been amazing. “I feel like every training is so intense to what I am used to,” she recalled. It’s another level up, and so exciting getting to know that you are going to go to training, you are going to push yourself. she stressed.

“Everyone’s just so competitive and you can feel that on the pitch and, playing with some of the olders and handful of younger players, it’s just so easy and fluid. It’s just so fun and enjoyable.

“I definitely feel like just in few months that I’ve been here, I’ve definitely learned new things and improved as a player already. I’m really excited for the next couple years here.”

Abigail Kim was born to a Ghanaian father and a Liberian Mother in Monrovia Abigail on July 19,1998. She was adopted by her American-Korean Parents Jin and Sue Kim and move to the United States.

She started College football at Seattle Sounder and later went on to travel to the California Golden Bears University as she began to rise into a promising star. Kim played four seasons for California Bears scoring 18goals and providing 10 Assists.

In January 2020 She signed for Orlando Pride and made few Appearance, before switching to Viola Women in July for an undisclosed, but the transfer was delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Abigail is a member of the USA U20 (with 6 goals and 24 appearances) and U18 national team.

Speaking further on the differentiate between American Soccer and that of the Italian game,the player born of the 98’s class immediately denies the superiority of Italian Soccer placing it on the same path as American football.

“I wanted to try European football because it is more technical and more tactical, She said. Further noting that football in America is fast, speed and physical,”I know that football in the United States is known for being quick and physical,but I wanted to measure myself against Italian football ”.Kim stressed.

I firstly want to adapt as soon as I can and to help my team,”I know to succeed in Italian football you must have to get use to their playing style as soon as possible.

Kim than describes Italian Soccer as home for developing Soccer talents into their potential,” the rise in the level of Serie A has been remarkable and now it can also be considered a training ground for the talents of the future.

“It’s a very technical and tactical football,I think I can grow a lot as a player here. It’s an important championship, I’m happy. I like training, I’m already improving in control and technique in general”. Kim said.

On the Reception, she received since her arrival at Fiorentina,Kim noted that hospitality the Viola is awesome. “The team welcomed me well,they were all very kind, I feel good. I have met and played against Martina Piemonte and we realized that we have already faced each other and we talk about it in training”. Women’s football together with Italy have always represented an example of hospitality, she said.

I like to score,because it means helping the team. I like to think that the goal is not only due to those who do it, but that it is the result of the work of the whole team. The glory goes to the attackers, but it should go to the whole team”. said the former Orlando Pride forward.
Meanwhile,Kim is eligible to play for Liberia as she is yet to make an official appearance for the senior United States Women National Team USWNT.

Lberian Sports International is in negotiation with the player as they try to convince her to play for the country of her birth.
